Check List
Basic guideline - If you did'nt pack it, you ain't got it!
Individual Items
Backpack, adequate size (50 – 70L)
Trail food (see food list):
Sleeping bag (check temperature rating)
Sleeping bag inner (if needed for warmth & keeps sleeping bag clean)
Sleeping mat (recommended foam roll mat not inflatable hiking mattress they pop!!)
Cooking utensils (spoon to cook and eat with is sufficient)
Pocket Knife
Hiking gas stove (plus spare gas canister in case you run out or it leaks!)
Tent (lightweight 2 man tent - 2 kg average)
Navigational aids (GPS or compass optional)
Personnel first aid kit (team leader to advise, see essentials items below)
Water purification tablets, drops or UV water purification light
Water flocculent (facilitates sediment in the water to settle to the bottom)
Drinking Water storage (at least 5L capacity)
3-litre bladder (to drink from whilst walking)
And/or any water bottles/containers with sufficient capacity (2L)
Water utility containers
Collapsible bucket to collect, purify and store water overnight for cooking etc (optional – team leader to advise)
Torch/ head lamp (strong beam) - make sure batteries are new and carry spare.
Personal toiletries & sundry
Toilet paper (1 roll)
Toothbrush plus small Toothpaste
Sunscreen
Biodegradable soap
Personal clothing
Walking cloths, 2 sets for walking, 1 set for sleeping
Spare pair of socks
Fleece for cold weather
Lightweight rain jacket
Beanie for cold heads
Lightweight tracksuit pants
Good comfortable walking shoes/boots/trainers
Flip flops for evenings NB – comes in handy
Rain poncho or Tarpaulin (can also be used as ground sheet to sleep on)
Hat (preferably wide brimmed)
Dishcloth/ rag for general use
Small binoculars (NB generally game is far away!)
Group Items
2,5L Kettle to boil water
Sat messenger and/or GPS
Solar Charger
Camera/ IPhone (IPhone lasts about 4 days in flight mode as a camera)
Compass

Valoid (for nausea)
Imodium (for the shits)
Celestamine (antihistamine)
Sting goes or anthisan for bites/ scratches
Myprodol (pain killers)
Antibiotics
Dettol (also good for repelling Tsetse flies)
Plasters
Cataflam (pain and inflammation)
